  1. Take a walk. An after-dinner stroll is commonplace in many cultures. That’s because it helps with digestion. A short, brisk walk after a heavy meal can move food through your stomach and intestines faster. Faster digestion has been linked to lower rates of heartburn.

  2.  Manage changes in your routine. If you travel or have special foods at events or holidays this can upset your digestive balance. To have on hand during these changes, Boiron offers On-The-Go versions of their digestive relief medicines. Boiron On-The-Go versions need no water, and they offer discreet relief. You can take them on a full or empty stomach. They can be taken before a meal containing a food that is known to trigger digestive symptoms.
  1. Manage your stress and sleep. The highest incidence of digestive issues is among young people between 25 and 45 due mostly to stress. Stress can increase bowel movement or cause stomachaches. Lack of sleep can affect your bowel ability causing muscle fatigue and low bowel movement.

  2. Skip the antacids. Antacids can make your digestive issues worse. They work on heartburn by neutralizing stomach acid but can also slow digestion. They can even interfere with the absorption of essential nutrients and vitamins and interact with prescription medications. Some antacids contain ingredients like magnesium that can set off diarrhea or aluminum, which can cause constipation.

  3. Keep homeopathic medicines on hand. Unlike other over-the-counter digestive relief medicines, homeopathic medicines work without drowsiness or interacting with other medications, herbs, or supplements. They can address multiple symptoms related to disordered digestion.
  4. See your doctor if you get worse. If you experience frequent diarrhea or constipation, you should consult with your physician.
